Notes from the Atelier: Pieced Together

A true meeting of minds and craft.

For this bespoke commission, I worked closely with my client’s distinct vision to create a piece inspired by the art of Bojagi — the traditional Korean textile technique of piecing together geometric forms. What drew both of us to Bojagi was its quiet precision: the way simple shapes can become something architectural, intentional, and deeply expressive.

Translating those clean, geometric seam lines into structured cloqué was an absolute joy. Cloqué’s sculptural texture allowed each colour block to hold its own form, giving the dress a sense of depth and movement even in stillness. The interplay of soft rose, crisp white, and deep red created a rhythm that feels both modern and rooted in tradition.

From the first sketch to the final stitch, this commission became a conversation — about proportion, balance, and the beauty of construction. It’s a piece that celebrates the artistry of piecing things together: fabric, colour, technique, and the shared vision between designer and client.
