Notes from the Atelier: A Study in Form and Ornamentation

Designed as an exploratory sample study. Made to order with bespoke options in alternative fabrications and refined colourways upon inquiry.

The intention behind this piece was to explore how structure and embellishment can coexist without competing. Wool crepe, with its natural weight and fluidity, creates a silhouette that moves quietly — allowing the bullion motifs to sit almost like sculptural punctuation marks across the bodice, sleeves and skirt. Each appliqué is placed by hand, following the natural lines of the garment so the decoration feels integrated rather than imposed.

This sample also became a study in negative space: how much ornamentation is enough, and where restraint creates more impact than abundance. The deep plum tone provides a rich backdrop, letting the gold bullion catch the light in a way that feels both modern and reminiscent of archival couture.

As with all atelier pieces, this dress can be re‑imagined entirely for bespoke clients — from a pared‑back, minimal version in matte black crepe to a more dramatic interpretation in structured satin or textured cloqué. Colourways, motif placement, sleeve shape and hem length can all be tailored to create a version that reflects the wearer’s own aesthetic.
