Every PETAR commission begins with a conversation.

Whether creating a couture garment or a wedding dress, the process is entirely individual. There is no fixed collection to choose from and no existing pattern to simply adapt. The design develops around the person, the occasion and the way the garment is intended to be worn.

01 — CONSULTATION

We begin with a private consultation at the Chelsea atelier. We discuss your ideas, the occasion, the setting and the feeling you want the garment to have.

This is where the initial direction begins to take shape.

02 — DESIGN

The design is developed through conversation, drawing and draping. Silhouette, proportion, fabric and detail are considered together, allowing the garment to evolve naturally rather than being decided all at once.

03 — TOILE

Before the garment is cut in the final fabric, a toile — a calico mock-up of the design — is made. This allows the proportions, fit and movement of the garment to be assessed on the body and refined where necessary.

04 — FITTINGS

The garment develops through a series of private fittings. A minimum of two fittings is required for bespoke commissions, with additional fittings where needed according to the design and fit.

For bridal commissions, the number and timing of fittings are planned around the wedding date.

05 — MAKING

Once the design and fit are resolved, the garment is cut in its final fabric and constructed in the atelier.

A significant part of the finishing is completed by hand, with hand sewing and detailed finishing used wherever they contribute to the character and quality of the garment.

06 — COMPLETION

The final fitting is an opportunity to make any last refinements before the garment is completed.

The finished piece is then carefully prepared for its occasion — a one-off garment designed, cut and made specifically for you.

TIMING & COMMISSIONING

Each commission is scheduled individually, according to the design and the occasion. Bespoke garments typically require approximately six to eight weeks from the confirmed order and deposit. This timeframe is indicative and may vary according to the complexity of the garment, fabric availability, fitting schedule and other circumstances.

For bridal commissions, it is advisable to begin the process well in advance of the wedding date to allow sufficient time for fittings and any unforeseen adjustments.

A 50% deposit is required to confirm a couture, bespoke or bridal commission and begin the design process, with the remaining balance payable before collection or dispatch.

OVERSEAS COMMISSIONS

Bespoke and couture commissions require in-person fittings at the Chelsea atelier.

For overseas clients, made-to-order garments are available in standard UK sizes only and require full payment in advance. Delivery costs are added to the invoice, and any applicable customs duties, import taxes or other charges in the destination country are the responsibility of the client.

For specific timings and commissioning arrangements, please enquire with the atelier.
